I really like it bc I don’t get too stressed come test day, as long as I’ve done my part and unlocked the cards and done them before the test date, there is no late night cram/anxiety flood. This has been largely mitigated due to the anking tagging. The challenge with anki is getting efficient enough at unlocking the cards that apply to what your profs are covering. I was also a big crammer, but that’s just not an option for me at this point due to the content load + time I spend with my family. I don’t think there is a way your admin would know, at least not yet. Covering all material that is on step 1 that will carry over to step 2 Really what we need is a new, trimmed down deck that is a combined step 1/2 deck. Doing a mega anki deck is a huge slog and you dont need to subject yourself to the whole thing of STEP 1 is P/F. Overall you can stilll do it, but don’t kill yourself over it, and be very liberal with the suspend button. I certainly wouldn’t do Biochem decks and I’d cut out a lot of the clinically low yield physio. So if you do it, I’d definitely try to skim through and cut out the decks that may not be clinically useful. Often school lectures have a lot of stuff that is really Step 2/Clinical material that is unhelpful for step 1, but could be decent background for rotations.Īdding to this is that ANKI is soooo time consuming, at least in the Zanki days. I’ll break from the mold here and say I actually think the pendulum may have shifted towards your school lectures. Finish out the year with uworld before step and I can’t imagine too many people would fail. I’d still watch boards and beyond and do premade anki decks, but I’d suspend the cards once the test is over to maximize quality of life. If step 1 was p/f I’d probably spend more time hanging out with my awesome classmates and maybe actually learning how to do a physical exam. My class has a range of students, but I personally lean into maximizing quality of life. You oftentimes only hear from people who are gunning for 250 and never miss a day of flashcards. This subreddit tends to select for people with extremely dedicated work ethics. But as a lowly ms2 I know little about what the practice of medicine really entails. There’s so much minutiae that I can’t imagine you would ever need to know in real life. You can probably easily pass step 1 by only doing half of a deck. God forbid you let your cards buildup during in house test week as well. The mental toll of 1k+ reviews every day gets to be a grind and if you ever decide to go on vacation or have a hangover life can be miserable for a couple days. This may go against the grain here, but as someone who is relatively burnt out heading into a two month corona delayed dedicated that will feature the first half of my im rotation, I have come to hate the flashcards.
